Alexandra Armata is a London-based fashion designer and alumni of the Masters of Fashion programme at Central Saint Martins. Her graduate collection, inspired by Soviet-era Polish fashion, centred on exploring her heritage through family photos and archival material. This led her to focus her current work on denim, which is centred on the impact of authoritarian governments on Eastern European fashion and manufacturing. She previously completed her Bachelor of Design at Toronto Metropolitan University where she simultaneously assisted designer Vejas to complete the outfits for Drake’s Summer Sixteen tour performances.
In 2021, her pandemic project 30 Jeans/30 Days focused on upcycling jeans into a unique new pair of jeans everyday over the course of a month to highlight the value of materials beyond their intended lifespan. Her most recent project, In the Studio, expands on denim upcycling by creating intricately crafted pieces through couture-inspired techniques which are uncommon to the world of upcycling. In the future, Armata Studio plans to continue growing her brand and ultimately expand the possibilities of manufacturing upcycled garments for scaling and distribution.
